Bulky tube monitors are long gone. Today, the discerning user will not surprise a compact and LCD displays in an ultra-slim design, the size of the long diagonals of which exceeds 25-inch. Therefore, a completely new solution – monitors with curved panels.
To display the "wrong" forms are used modern matrix and advanced technology, which minimizes eye strain. The developers claim that the curved panel creates the effect of full immersion in virtual reality: the image is three-dimensional, deep and alive. In addition, this monitor is useful for working in multiple Windows simultaneously. Philips did not stay aside and offered his solution to the trend – monitor BDM3490UC, which we will consider in this review.
Design and construction
The design of the monitor is made according to the latest fashion trends: slim, compact stand unusual shape and the almost complete absence of framework in full accordance with modern trends. In the base of the stand integrated speakers, which are the same quality as today's fashionable miniature acoustic systems: they can be used instead of desktop speakers when communicating in instant messengers, listening to music and watching movies.
The Monitor boasts a variety of modern front-end connections, headed by DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0 and a pair of HDMI 1.4. One of the ports of HDMI 1.4 is used to display content from mobile devices technology MHL. In addition, a USB hub with 4 USB 3.0 ports for connecting high-speed peripheral gadgets, charging of tablets and smartphones.
Philips BDM3490UC built on a modern AH-IPS. According to the declared technical parameters, factory setting is consistent with professional standards and, therefore, additional calibration of the monitor is not needed. The menu is operated with the joystick at the bottom of the screen.
Basic functions of a standard, there are ready profiles, adjusted to function in different modes. The monitor supports PIP ("picture in picture") and PBP ("picture the neighborhood"). If you use the first option with an additional picture source displayed in a nested window, and using the second primary and secondary images are located nearby. Using these technologies it is possible to work with a large amount of information transmitted simultaneously from two sources.
During testing, it became clear that the stated characteristics of color correspond to the real numbers. Minor deviations are within the line of one unit. Calibration is really not needed – to work with color and graphics immediately after installation of the monitor.
The Static contrast ratio is 894:1. This value is determined by the maximum brightness of white – 259 CD/m2. Setting range performed well. In the entire range of brightness there is a slight discrepancy which cannot be attributed to the category of serious weaknesses. Curves as close as possible to the target value of 2.2, a color gamut of 100% corresponds to the space sRGB.
Viewing Angles and uniformity of illumination
In both horizontal and vertical viewing angles are impressive. If significant deviations from the norm, you notice noncritical color shift, which was generally the case for matrices of this type.
The Value of the uniformity of the illumination fits into the ±15%,. Neither on white nor on black background with the naked eye, this variation is not noticeable. Discrepancies can be detected only by performing a special measurement. Smooth operation of the PWM controller eliminates harmful flicker.
BDM3490UC Philips with a diagonal of 34-inch and an aspect ratio of 21:9 will fit both advanced home users and professionals working with multimedia content. Curved panel gives the full effect of immersion when watching videos and when you start the game. In a special way note built-in speakers – monitors, few can boast the acoustics of such level.
